Please join members of the History Department, Library, and Administration as the College formally accepts an important and exciting gift of Civil War letters from donors Carolyn and Paul Kelly. Light refreshments will be served.
The Kellys have chosen SUNY Geneseo as the “forever home” for their unique collection of letters written by (and to) Elijah Randolph Robinson, a Civil War soldier who lived for a time in Warsaw, NY and was the great-grandfather of Mrs. Kelly. Robinson wrote home faithfully during his years serving with the First NY Dragoons regiment (mid-1862-65) and participated in the pursuit of General Lee to Appomattox Court House.
The extensive correspondence, a rich trove of primary source material, will be added to the Library’s Special Collections where students and other researchers can access it for years to come.
